VAT Report

Last updated: October 22, 2026

The VAT report shows your sales and purchases activity for a period you choose, with each tax rate on its own line. It calculates Net Sales, Net Purchases and the Net VAT automatically, instead of you building the reconciliation by hand.

The report collects its figures automatically for the selected period: documents linked to taxable sales or purchase documents, plus Cash out documents that use tax. Amounts are shown in the system currency.

Follow the Steps

  • Go to the "Accounting" module.
  • Open the "VAT report" page.
  • Choose the start month and year.
  • Choose the duration: 1 month, 2 months or 3 months.
  • Click on "Generate".

Each month of the period gets its own column with a Value and a VAT figure. When you choose more than one month, a "Total" column covers the whole period.

The Net VAT is calculated across every tax rate found in the selected period, in this order:

StepFormula
1. Net Sales VATSum of sales lines VAT − Sum of sales returns VAT
2. Net Purchases VATSum of purchases lines VAT (Purchase Invoices + Journal Entries + Cash out) − Sum of purchase returns VAT
3. Net VATNet Sales VAT − Net Purchases VAT

For Cash out documents, the VAT is the line's tax value. The Value is the line amount after subtracting the tax when the tax is "Inclusive", or the full line amount when the tax is "Exclusive".

Example: a Cash out of 1,000, Tax Inclusive at 15%
Amount1,000

Example: a Cash out of 1,000, Tax Exclusive at 15%

Important Things to Know

  • Each tax rate is on its own line, followed by the returns line for the same rate as negative amounts. Returns are deducted when Net Sales and Net Purchases are calculated.
  • The Net VAT is tagged "Due" when positive and "Credit" when negative.

Try It Yourself

Sample data only — no real data is affected. Pick a start month and a duration, click "Generate", then try changing the period after generating.

You May Be Wondering

What does a negative Net VAT mean?
It means a credit balance carried forward to the next period, not an amount payable, and it's tagged "Credit".
Why doesn't a Purchase Invoice created from a Purchase Order that uses allocated costs appear in the report?
That invoice is excluded because its VAT is already reported through the journal entry the system creates when the Purchase Order is saved. That journal entry appears under Purchases, using the tax rates of the Purchase Order lines.
When does a Cash out document appear in the report?
Only when its Tax is "Inclusive" or "Exclusive". Only the lines that carry a tax rate are counted, and each line goes on the "Purchases" line of its own rate.
Why don't Cash in documents appear in the report?
Because Cash in documents don't support tax.
